Are you considering working as an equine behaviour consultant?

This two day workshop is an intensive introduction to the principles and practice of horse behaviour consulting. The weekend will include presentations, practical exercises and real life case studies.


You will learn about:

  • The consultation process

  • The practicalities of working as a behaviour consultant

  • How to assess behaviour problems

  • The horse’s behavioural needs

  • Effective history taking

  • Addressing behaviour problems using LIMA (least intrusive, minimally aversive) principles

  • The effects different training methods have on the horse

  • Why common behaviour problems occur and how to address them

  • Managing fear-based problems

  • Managing equine stress

  • Working with vets

  • Practical exercises with horses

  • Case study examples

Equine behaviour consultant Justine Harrison will guide you through the consultation process and how to successfully manage your consulting business. You'll be able to ask questions about your own cases, discuss problems with Justine and other delegates as well as working through case study examples.

This two day workshop is aimed at horse owners, students and equestrian professionals interested in learning more about the principles and practice of horse behaviour consulting.

Regular price tickets (bought after 1 June) £220 for both days

Would you like to learn how best to train your horse?

Horse owners are constantly bombarded with marketing messages from a wide variety of horse trainers promoting their ‘method’ of training horses. But how can you assess whether these methods are effective, humane or suitable for you and your horse? 

Equine behaviourist Justine Harrison will guide you through this minefield by teaching you how horses learn and the principles of training so that you can make informed decisions for yourself. You will learn about effective handling and training techniques and benefit from an improved understanding of how your own horse learns which will help you train your own horse more successfully.

You will learn about:

  • The principles of training

  • Why different techniques may or may not work

  • An introduction to Learning Theory – the science of how horses learn

  • The effects of different training methods on the horse

  • How to create the best environment for your horse to learn

  • How to assess your horse’s emotional thresholds

  • Training using LIMA (Least Invasive, Minimally Aversive) principles

  • What makes a great trainer

  • How to make training fun for you and your horse

  • Retraining your horse to enjoy a fearful task (eg. clippers, vaccinations, saddle)

  • When to stop training

  • Putting theory into practice with horses on site

This two-day workshop is aimed at horse owners, students and equestrian professionals interested in learning more about training and how it affects the horse.
