HOW HORSES LEARN & HOW TO TRAIN MORE EFFECTIVELY

  • Hampshire Rural Business Centre, Sparsholt College, Sparsholt, Hampshire. SO21 2NF (map)

Would you like to understand how horses learn and how to train them more effectively?

Horse owners are constantly bombarded with marketing messages from a wide variety of horse trainers promoting their ‘method’ of training horses. But how can you assess whether these methods are effective or suitable for you and your horse?

Equine behaviourist & trainer Justine Harrison will guide you through this minefield by teaching you how horses learn and the principles of training so that you can make informed decisions for yourself.  This day workshop is a combination of theoretical and practical sessions.

You will benefit from an improved understanding of how your own horse learns and gain new practical skills to train more effectively.

You will learn about:

  • The principles of training

  • Learning Theory – the science of how horses learn

  • The effects different training methods have on the horse

  • How to create the best environment for your horse to learn

  • How to increase your horse’s motivation

  • How to assess your horse’s emotional thresholds

  • What makes a great trainer

  • How to analyse and solve training issues

  • When to stop training

  • How to create a tailored training plan for your horse.

This day workshop is aimed at horse owners, students and equestrian professionals interested in learning more about horse behaviour. You don’t need any prior training experience to attend.

Approval for BHS and PCUK CPD and IAABC CEUs are pending. Please email Justine if you would like a CPD attendance certificate.
